Winning bidder ask me to cancel an order
Buyer wins an auction then ask to cancel order I suppose now EBAY has done away with unpaid item strikes for buyers???????? What happens if I just ignore? Do he get unpaid item strike? It used to NOT be this way I have had MANY bidders never pay and it just cancels order eventually. Guess this another underhanded ebay move to keep buyers who bid then not pay from getting unpaid item strikes and being unable to BID on items?????????????? I assume now bids are TOTALLY meaningless

·2 years agoWas the notice to you in a "message from a member" or was it from eBay itself with links to accept or reject the cancellation request?
If it is the former and you ignore it s/he will either pay or you can cancel for non-payment after 4 calendar days. It sounds like you have your "Preferences for items awaiting payment" set to automatically cancel after x days (4 minimum) which is why "it just cancels the order eventually" (unless you don't have it set and the ability to cancel or pay ends after 3 days in which case the buyer does not get the sanctions for the unpaid item).
If it is the latter you might not be able to do anything other than cut your losses and accept the cancellation so you can safely relist, make a Second Chance Offer, or otherwise dispose of the item now rather than waiting 3 or 30 days. It means the buyer used a link in his/her Purchase History within the first hour that invokes a procedure seemingly dreamed up by the public relations department rather than anyone who actually understood how transactions on eBay actually worked:
When that 1 hour cancellation first was introduced it quickly came to light that if the seller used the "Reject" button s/he could not thereafter open an Unpaid Item Dispute for non-payment due to a limitation of only 1 cancellation case being allowed per transaction (if the seller doesn't respond in the 3 days s/he is given to respond the requested cancellation goes through if the buyer hasn't paid by then). This was before Managed Payments when the Final Value Fee for the sale was charged to the seller and s/he had to do a cancellation or an Unpaid Item Dispute to get a credit so s/he wasn't out the money, so sellers had to call (back in the day when that was possible) Customer Service to get the credit (and it was unclear but doubtful that the buyer got the Unpaid Item Strike that s/he should have).
When the UID process was replaced by the cancellation for non-payment process after Managed Payments was universal, it still prevented that. But there wasn't as much pressure on eBay to fix the problem since seller were no longer having to get an FVF credit to avoid paying for a sale that they weren't paid for.
Perhaps eBay has closed the loophole and the seller can now cancel after rejecting a 1-hour request, but I very much doubt it. See if there is a link to cancel the order/transaction in the more actions menu of the transaction in your list of sold items, and if so whether non-payment is in the list of reasons for cancellation that comes up when you try to use it after the 5th midnight Pacific Time after the end of auction.
