Will Ebay step in to help with my refund request?
If I asked for a FULL refund from the seller, and the seller confirmed they will refund me for this DEFECTIVE ITEM, but ONLY AFTER I close the case, is it safe to close the case?
I saw the following information online:
"Do not close the case. The seller is trying to trick you, as closing a return case means it cannot be reopened, and you will likely not receive your refund. Sellers can refund with an open case"

1. Go to your Purchase history.

It is not safe to close the case before receiving your refund. Closing a return case means you cannot reopen it, and you may not receive your refund if you close it prematurely. Sellers can issue refunds while the case is still open. If the seller is asking you to close the case first, this could be a trick.

IF I'd like Ebay to step in and help me to receive the refund (so that I do NOT have to close the case BEFORE I receive the refund), should I keep the defective item (as the seller requested), OR should I ship back the defective item BEFORE 2.23.26 (date on Ebay return request page)? We

Mentor6 months agoDo not close the case. The seller is trying to scam you because if you close the case it cannot be reopened. As soon as you can go back to the case and "Ask eBay to step in" so they decide the case right then. This option should appear after three business days of opening the case. Keep in mind that the case will only stay open for 21 days before eBay will close it in the sellers favor.

OP6 months agoThanks so much for the helpful info.
My question is, do I need to first SHIP BACK the item (as Ebay indicated), or KEEP the item (as the seller claims I should do; & the seller also asked me to "close the case, before receiving a refund- which I will NOT do)?
Meaning, in order for Ebay to "step in and help on my behalf," do I need to ship the item back? I had a few days of "limbo," as I was getting these strange instructions from the seller (which I will now ignore, and try to go with Ebay policy).
In any case, I am already planning on going to the post office tomorrow (Th. 2.12.26), or at least in the next few days, before it is too late (2.23.26 deadline).
I appreciate you taking the time to post/reply. I'm glad I went with my instincts to first do an online search about this, and then to search for the answer on the Ebay website (e.g. automated assistant and "Ask the community" here). Thanks again
