Why would seller cancel order for buy it now car?

Question

I hit the buy it now for a car but the seller canceled the order a few hours later. Why would that be the case? Is it some kind of scam?

Hi @austonm_17 Nothing on eBay Motors is binding. I'm also very literal minded, I don't assume and I don't extrapolate, but @gosimus is correct. Think of eBay Motors not as a purchasing platform like regular eBay, but more like the ads in the LA Times. The listings are just ads that you can inquire about. There is no commitment until an in-person inspection of the vehicle and cash is traded for the pink. You wouldn't really want to be bound to a car you'd never seen in person no matter how great the deal seemed. And never ever pay a deposit on eBay Motors. If you decide against the vehicle, eBay has no way to get that back for you. Good luck!

@austonm_17 < Is it some kind of scam? > If so, I can't figure out how the "scammer" would benefit from it. More likely, IMHO, is that the seller just changed her/his mind. Maybe got a better price at the local used car lot. eBay Motors sales are non-binding, and eBay rules allow either party simply to walk away, no explanation required. edited to add ~ You might want to wait for additional replies to your question. I intended to post eBay policy to document my answer, and couldn't find it explicitly stated. All I could find in policy was that bids on vehicles are non-binding, which, to my mind, doesn't mean the same thing but I tend to read things literally.
