why was my bid cancelled?
I bid on an item (204457421659). I was winning and the only bidder for over a week. On the last day my bid was cancelled. The email says to check the bidding history to find out why. Unfortunately when I search for the item I find nothing. It's like the listing never existed. Why was my bid cancelled on an item that waited until the last day to cancel it? Where can I find the reason my bid was cancelled? How do I find out these things? It sure looks like the seller wasn't getting the bid attention they wanted and withdrew the item. If that is the case maybe I will no longer use the auction format for buying things.

·2 years agoYou should be able to find the reason the seller GAVE for the cancellation on the Bid History Page, in the section on cancellations and retractions below the main history (but eBay keeps reformatting things, often with a loss of some functionality). Note that one cancellation removes all bids that bidder placed on that auction, though information on only 1 bid will be displayed. You need to be logged in under the same ID you bid with, as only the seller and the particular bidder are allowed to see the reasons.
Go to the Listing Page for the auction (the one with the Description and the Shipping and Payments tab) and from there click on the # of bid display (even if "0 bids", but see below if it is) to get to the Bid History Page. BUT FIRST, if the auction is completed and there are "0 bids", look in the upper left to see the reason the seller GAVE for ending the auction early (and if that is the case it is extremely likely that the reason for your bid being cancelled is that the seller cancelled all bids to end the auction early.
As for getting to the Listing Page: Do you have the item number? If so paste it into the URL: ebay.com/itm/########### If a short form completed listing page comes up look at top left for the reason the listing ended. You can also click on the # of bid display to see if any bids were cancelled before the end. If the item number is not found, eBay removed the listing for some issue with the listing and/or seller (this also applies if you had the listing on your Watch List and it is gone from there).
If you don't have the item number rerun the search where you found the item originally and if it's not in the results for active listings click the box to show "Completed listings" in the left column of the search results.
I recommend you place any listing you are planning to bid on onto your Watch List (or another list you make for that purpose) BEFORE you bid so it is easy to find after you bid: you won't have to look in 3 different possible locations (Bids, Didn't Win, and Purchase History, and if your bid is cancelled it won't be in any of those, AND it can take some time after it disappears from the active Bids section at the end of the auction to show up in the appropriate other section) as it will be in the Watch List regardless of your status in the auction (unless eBay removes the listing).
ETA: "This listing was ended by the seller on Tue, Sep 19 at 9:33 PM because the item was lost or broken." https://www.ebay.com/itm/204457421659
