Why pay extra to "Promote"?
Why does eBay charge extra (promote it) just to effectively show my listing? Seems like a money grab scam to me. It seems that eBay makes plenty of money from the fees they charge for my sales. Corporate greed?

There are many eBay sellers who swear by their participation in the Promoted Listings program. They have found it does help to increase their sales, because it does place listings higher in the search results.
Like it or not, it's human nature to grab for the first thing we see, rather than shop around and see if there are better deals to be had. I think eBay is using this tendency to its own advantage.
It is never required for any seller to use eBay's Promoted Listings programs.
