why is the seller automatically guaranteed payment, but the buyer may not get the item he bought,

Question

for example, I bought a very nice item on an auction , but the seller changes his mind, and I don't get what I paid for, I get a refund or an estate sale, the seller , sales the item, someone in the family decides they want it, so i don't get what i paid for, i get a refund, but in all instances my payment has already been made to the seller, seems fair? this redneck don't think so. I have no problem with the auto payment, but what about the seller.

You can't make the seller deliver the item, but one seller did this more than once, what penalty does he pay? I wanted the item I bought, not a refund.

Your payment goes to Ebay, not directly to the seller. So when the seller refunded you, that was from the money from the sale.

eBay can take a payment back from a nonperforming seller, but eBay cannot force a seller to deliver the advertised item. That's why it's a "money back guarantee" and not a "get the item guarantee".
