why is ebay requiring automatic payment method for buyers?
For the first time ever, I have gotten a pop up box to set up automatic payment method for BIDDING on an item. I have NEVER had this happen before and it does NOT happen on items which are "Buy It Now". I wish to be able to choose the method of payment at the time the auction closes as I have for the last 25+ years. I show only positive feedback for the last 12 months with over 300 transactions. It still shows in the "Contact Us" area that auctions won have 4 days to pay, NOT automatically upon auction closing. I've checked this on several different auctions and ALL are showing this now and will not let me bid without setting up a "Automatic Payment Method" Can someone please explain this unfair change in TOS?

Mentor3 years agoNon-paying buyers are a huge problem for sellers. Blame them for this new change. As a seller, I am happy about it. As a buyer, it doesn't bother me. I was going to pay right away anyways. I would never make a seller wait 4 days for my payment.

I have only had to enter my payment info beforehand when making an OFFER, never when bidding.

·3 years agoSellers are tired of buyers winning an auction or making an offer, then not paying.
They've been doing it with offers for a little while, but didn't know they were doing it with auctions.
