Why is Ebay now requiring "instant payment" when bidding? (sellers won't "combine ship" if payed).
As a buyer, I have always been very responsive to paying won auctions, and have a 100% feedback. I got no special notification from Ebay, but now when I bid on ANY items, I'm required to indicate my "instant Payment" preference. I ma also onn able to find anywhere in my settings how to turn "Instant Payment off".
I regularly buy multiple smaller lower cost items from a seller, and rely on "combined Ship Invoices" to save a lot of money on shipping. Sellers DO NOT offer this service if the items are already payed for because it's a real hassle to refund the shipping costs, so I'm now going to wind up spending huge amounts on shipping, far in excess of the funds required to actually ship the items. Help!

OP3 years agoWell, sellers better get ready to refund shipping funds, or lose a great majority of bidding. I'm not spending $60+ in shipping for items than can ship for nine bucks! Seriously, Bug **bleep** Corporate Thumb coming down on places that were working just fine before. This is the part of Ebay I seriously hate . . . hopefully our mode of sellers will migrate to Etsy. where they still have freedom to buy and sell as they chose.

Are you sure you are talking about Auctions and not Best Offers??? The reason I ask is that last year eBay started the requirement that Buyers needed to provide a payment method (on some accounts) on the Best Offer flow and in time they planned to make that the SOP for Best Offers. I was not aware of them doing that for Auction formats although I am glad to see that they might be testing that as well.
If all you do is buy then you are not aware of the number of Auctions that go unpaid after Buyers bids them up to a nice price for Sellers. I had a number of them this year although the items sold the next auction cycle or two after I cancelled the transactions.
As for Combining shipments of individually paid for items I do that all the time. But let me also point out that eBay has made the process of Combining shipments convoluted for Sellers ... the word "Combine" does NOT appear on a Sellers list of sold items that are awaiting a shipping label ... nope, does not exist and I have brought this up to them on numerous occasions. I have also posted many times for Sellers who come here and ask how to Combine items for shipment ...

OP3 years agoNo. I mean my ebay will not be allow to place ANY bid, on ANY item without using "Instant payment". Furthermore, no where in my account setting can I find an option to reset or turn "Instant payment" off. I will not be able to bid as usual until this is fixed. No seller is going to want to refund 60 to 80 dollars in shipping for multiple instant payment bid wins.

·3 years agoThere is nothing you can turn off or reset, it's working like it's supposed to.
The seller has the option if they want to use it or not, so contact the seller before bidding or making offers.

·3 years agoThere's been a few post lately from buyers complaining they can't place a bid without adding a payment source, so I guess they are starting to add it to auctions also.

Mentor3 years agoAll buyers have 100% feedback for buying if they have any recent feedback at all, even the ones that are serial non-payers.
Not all buyers are as conscientious as you are about paying, unfortunately.
Instant payment is a seller-controlled requirement, so if a seller requires it and eBay puts you in the group of buyers subject to the requirement, you cannot avoid it as a buyer if you want to buy from that seller.
If the requirement interferes with your ability to negotiate multiple-item purchases with a seller, contact the seller to see if the seller will let you get around it.
