Why is eBay Not Helping?!?!?
I paid almost $2,500 for a guitar on March 29, with the ad saying it would be shipped "within 3 days". It's now been 10 days, the guitar status has not changed, it has not shipped, the seller has ignored three messages that I've sent -- and eBay is doing nothing to help. I try and get a request in to help -- not helpful that it's impossible to just send a message in. Anyway, eBay says to wait until April 8 -- ten days after I paid -- and now it's April 8, and eBay is still saying to wait until April 8. I cannot believe how bad this deal is. Where's that buyer guarantee!?!?!?

OP2 years agoWow, I'm still out $2,500, still have heard nothing whatsoever from the seller or eBay, and there is no way to actually contact a customer service repp. Every time I try use the poor AI tool, I get a new extended date that I have to wait for. Can't wait until the next random deadline passes and gets extended further. This is 100% the last time I'm using eBay after thousands of dollars spent on guitars, I am shocked at how bad the service has been and I'm going to make sure this gets broadcasted.

Mentor2 years agoHello ersh_916,
You have received excellent advice from the previous Mentors. EBay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee. Now that the estimated delivery date has passed, you would need to go online and open a Item Not Received case
Go to your Purchase History, find the guitar, and the option to open the case is there.
There is no need to contact the Seller. Right now there is no need to call EBay. The critically important thing to do is open the case.
If you feel you need to contact eBay, do not call. You could contact them via eBay for Business on Facebook. Give them time to respond.
And please open the case asap. And keep us posted. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

OP2 years agoI really appreciate this very much, and I followed the advice given here and did submit a report. It took longer than I would have liked (whether that's fair or not) and I could quibble over eBay's cavalier position to Customer Service. But! I was informed by an eBay rep that I had satisfied the requirements for a full refund, and that I would be receiving one (definitely going to follow up on that). So not a happy ending but not the disaster that I thought it was. Again, thanks everyone for indulging my compaining, I was just so upset that the $2.5k I'd saved up for my dream guitar had been swindled outta me. I did learn a valuable lesson though, which is to reach out to a seller of an expensive item *before* smashing that 'Buy' button.

OP2 years agoOk, thank you everybody for the insights, I appreciate you taking the time to write it all out. This is the first time I've had such an issue with any online seller. I'm just flabbergasted at the seller ignoring my messages and just ... doing nothing, at all. Except take payment of course. But my ire is directed toward the seller (whom I hope hasn't suffered some crisis) and not toward you kind people offering guidance. Thanks again!

First, check if the latest estimated delivery date has passed.

OP2 years agoI placed and paid for the order on March 29. The item bid said it ships within 3 days. The seller has ignored three messages I've sent. It's now been ten days, the item has not shipped, the seller has not responded to three messages, and eBay is doing nothing to help. It's "automatic" customer service tells me that I have to wait until April 8. Which of course is today. Why is eBay not helping.

Mentor2 years agoThe way eBay works is that they provide an estimated delivery date for the item in your purchase history. Once that date has passed by one business day you can file a case for an Item not Received. If the seller cannot prove with tracking that the item has been delivered within three days you can go back to the case and "Ask eBay to step in". When you do this they will force a refund from the seller so they have no choice but to refund you.

·2 years agoPlease follow the procedure I told about. Instead of messaging the seller.
Ebay helps with the procedure and the possibility to ask eBay to step in 3 days later.
Good luck.
