Why have a money back guarantee when eBay does not honor .
I have a 14-day Money back guarantee no questions ask policy, yet eBay wanted me to either print return shipping label or they would print one for me and if I choose to do neither the message read they would by a certain date print one and deduct funds from my account? This item was not damaged, buyer simply wanted to return after wearing if for over 2 weeks.... The buyers return policy had expired 4 days ago, I still honor the return because I felt I had no choice. So my question is , why doesn't eBay respect Sellers money back guarantee policy they have in place in their store? If the item is past due the guarantee why am I having to print shipping label and honor the guarantee? This does not make sense to me?

Your return policy is for buyer’s remorse returns - like changed my mind, found a better price, etc.
The eBay money back guarantee covers all not as described situations - wrong item, damaged, different condition, etc.
The decision is based on the reason selected by the buyer when they open the return request. The other factor is that your return period is from date of receipt, not the sale date.

OP2 years agoYes I totally understand this the return was started after the buyer received date not the sale date, I have been selling well over 15 years I know this and still 4 days over, there was no damaged to item, it was exactly as described, I do not mind paying return shipping, but to have to refund item when there is no damage and buyer lying about "not as described "over 20 days after the guarantee policy with no photos provided does not make sense to me. Again eBay did not respect MY store polices, why even have a policy in place when eBay does not honor my terms? Totally unfair to me as a seller.

Ebay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee for Buyer Purchase Protection that overrides an individual Seller's return policy.
14-day returns are only allowed in very limited categories. If you have a 14-day return policy in the description of your listings, it not enforceable.
Many Sellers have various restrictions for Buyers in their descriptions. EBay's posted policies will always take precedent.

OP2 years ago14-day returns are allowed in jewelry category which is what I sell, what do you mean by "it not enforceable"? Why even have 30 day or 14 day money back guarantee then ?
Are you kidding me even with various restriction in the listing , still buyers DO NOT take the time to read and will go ahead and open returns any ways...lets be real! Ebay favors buyers more than they do their sellers, and with this new AI eBay agent don't even bother doing their work. At times you will get someone who knows what they are doing but most times when talking to agent on the phone they do not have a glue how to help you no matter how many times you call.

If the buyer claimed not as described, eBay’s policy applies, not yours. They will always, or almost always say return for a refund, since they have no way of knowing who is right. I agree that it stinks. If you have been selling that long, you remember the days when everything was in the seller’s favor. We are now at the other extreme - perhaps someday it will be more level, but the hard truth is that the buyers bring the money.
On items where you offer 30 day returns, eBay will subsidize $6 of the return shipping when you report the buyer for abusing the money back guarantee. You would also have the ability to reduce the refund for any change in condition.
You should still report the buyer’s policy abuse. eBay does remove the money back guarantee protection from buyers who continually abuse it, or file a large number of claims.

OP2 years agoYes , buyers bring in money but you need sellers to sell in order to bring in money. It works both ways and therefore should be balanced.
I did report this buyer who I felt was abusing the return policy, sometimes though I wonder if eBay really takes note on buyers account.
Thank you for your efforts in responding to my question.
