Why does ebay rip us off on shipping
They tried to get a cut of the $73 shipping charge which is zero profit and would cancel out the profit on the sale of a $41 clock. I would only get $25 and then have to buy a very sturdy box and packing which probably cost $5 to $10. Plus I'd have to spend an hour packing and another hour in line at the post office to mail it. The average wait time at our post office is 50 minutes. One employee and always at least 20 to 30 customers in line. People with cars drive to other cities to mail stuff. I guess I will cancel the order and apologize to the buyer and hope he understands that I can't let ebay charge him $73 and then charge me $88 for shipping he's already paid for. I hear ETSY doesn't rip you off like eBay does. Is that true ?

Mentor3 years agoNope, not true. Besides, you can't stuff there unless it is an antique, or you made it yourself. You need to price your items to include all of the fees and costs for selling. Some stuff is not worth selling here.
The fee %s are charged on the shipping for several reasons, mostly because sellers would price the item at $1 with $100 shipping if the fee wasn't charged on the total.
Next time you are at your PO, ask them where you can drop off your packages that already have labels. Mine has a spot inside the back door. Then print your shipping labels through eBay at the discounted prices. You are charging your buyers the retail prices, and the difference helps cover the fees and packing. (To get the retail rates for parcel select, you need to choose retail ground).
Scrounge around for used boxes. Ask you neighbors to save boxes from stuff they purchase. Same for bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc.
