Why Does eBay Do Nothing About Dishonorable Sellers ?
Summary: themrings expressed frustration with a seller on eBay, describing how their auction win was canceled by the seller, citing issues with the mailing address, which themrings claims is a common excuse by the seller to avoid completing sales. They also highlighted difficulties in filing complaints due to automated responses from eBay when refunds are issued. Other participants suggested reporting the seller for suspicious activity and explained that repeated cancellations can lead to consequences for the seller's eBay account. There were also discussions about the impact of seller defects and the importance of choosing experienced sellers with good track records.
I entered an eBay auction for some coins the other day. I won the auction. This Seller is a liar and dishonorable. He cancelled my purchase after he didn't get as much as he wanted during the auction. I come to this conclusion because his reviews show a long history of this exact same behavior, and many complaints. Ironically, his listing said that he does not offer cancellations or returns.
He lied and said that it was cancelled because there was a problem with my mailing address. The funny part is that I have hundreds of purchases and sales on eBay. There's never been a problem with my address. Even if there was a problem with my mailing address (which there isn't), why wouldn't he reach out to me before cancelling the purchase ? This guy is so dishonest, it's ridiculous.
Given the number of times he's pulled this exact same stunt (and all of the complaints about it), why doesn't eBay throw him off the site ? He's not doing business in good faith and is clearly violating eBays rules and conditions.
I tried to complain but eBay doesn't offer telephone numbers to call and, when I tried to complain in writing, the site said that I could not because the Seller already started my refund. This just isn't right.

Sellers that cancel routinely without valid cause don't sell for very long on eBay. This indicates you were likely either dealing with a very new or very inexperienced seller, or at least one that has not been reported by many buyers for the same thing yet.
You can avoid many issues by choosing only to do business with experienced sellers that have a proven track record of delivering what was described. Skip sellers that have patterns of poor feedback indicating significant problems like this.
Report the seller, then see if you can leave appropriate (calm, factual) feedback here:

Mentor1 month agoCancellations such as this are not going unnoticed. eBay can suspend the account or close down the seller. Add to this by reporting the seller as instructed.

OP1 month agoYou didn't read what I said. When I tried to report the Seller, eBay automatically told me that I couldn't because the refund had been issued.

OP1 month agoPlus, there's a bunch of people with the same complaint about this Seller. How come eBay hasn't done anything previously ?

Mentor1 month agoI don't know eBay's specifics for this and we don't know that something has or hasn't been done previously. You can still report the seller. By choosing something wrong with address, the seller is trying to avoid defects on their account.

Mentor1 month agoYou, as an eBay buyer, will not know whether eBay has "done anything previously" to the seller. Nobody knows except that seller and eBay, Inc.
For every "sale" that a seller cancels due to "Problem With Address" --
-- that is not truly a problem with the buyer's address --
eBay places a defect on the seller's record.
After a certain percentage of defects, eBay can charge that seller higher selling fees.
After waaaaay too many defects, "Problems With Address" or "Out Of Stock" cancellations, eBay can cancel that seller's account.
