Why does eBay charge state sales tax on shipping charges in addition to the tax on purchased items?

·3 years agoBecause that is what that particular state requires (the one the item is being shipped to), either in general or in particular situations (which are the situations that usually apply in eBay transactions). It is not based on what the carrier charges the seller but rather on what the seller charges the buyer (whether higher, lower, or exactly the same as the carrier charges).

·3 years agoSome states require the sales tax to be applied to the shipping charge also.
