Because "they" have the product. The potential buyers (including "you"?) don't. Bidding is to determine which of the potential buyers "they" ship it to after the auction determines which potential buyer the seller ships it to after the price is determined from the bids placed before the auction ends and the winner pays that price.
If you meant to ask some more specific question you need to ask it in full, along with enough of the circumstances of why you want to ask it for us to understand the context of why you are asking it. We are not mind readers.
Never heard of that before and it is not normal to have to bid on a product. Amazon doesn't bid on such items. I think that is what the confusion was, because Amazon sent me the product. Sorry for the mix up. Thanks
Although many items can be purchased directly, about 15% of item listings on eBay are currently auctions where users place bids and the high bid at the end of the auction wins.
In an auction, the bidding determines both the price and the winner. The highest bid wins (or the earlier bid in the case of a tie). And the price the winner pays is determined by the second highest bidder's maximum amount.
