Why did eBay suddenly and without warning, halt payments and force me to verify my bank account?

This place is a perpetual amazement of computer blocks that prevent a human from going one step further until you get ahold of another human to remove the computer block!
Suddenly, I awoke this morning to a block on my selling account and an email stating: You cannot get further payments until you verify your bank account. Well, things had been rolling along perfectly until this week when this happens...
Can someone tell me *why* this has happened and what their logic is? I suddenly out of nowhere also have a "copyright infringement" lock on one of my sales and nothing I can do will release it or delete it. I am always baffled at the computer corners I run into on here. Thoughts?
