Why couldn't they deliver the package?

Hi. The item description for the stuff I bought on eBay says that the carrier is USPS, i.e. the US Postal Service. And the tracking said that it was out for delivery today. But I did not get the package, and when I tracked the package just now, it says "We could not access the delivery location to deliver your package." I live in a gated apartment building, but USPS and all the major carriers have access to our building, and the USPS postman came today and delivered the mail. So who exactly is it that was supposed to be delivering the package, exactly which carrier are they with, and why couldn't they deliver the package?

Mentor3 weeks agoIf the tracking number is from the USPS then it is the post office that is making the delivery. Sometimes the delivery person decides not to deliver packages if their is a lot of mail to deliver and will try again the next business day. They can use this excuse when they do this. But only the delivery person will know exactly why they decided not to make the delivery.

OP3 weeks agoYes, the tracking is by USPS. What you say makes sense. He delivered the mail late in the afternoon, and he was probably behind schedule, so he probably chose not to take the time to go back in the truck to get the packages, and used that as an excuse. I had no idea that they did that, but it makes sense now that you informed me of it. Thanks.

OP3 weeks agoAnother thing I just thought of is that the Postal Service is having budget problems, so they may be having to skimp on labor and have fewer mail carriers each having to cover more ground. This could cause the USPS to be less reliable going forward and cause problems for eBay and people who buy and sell on eBay.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf it doesn't show up Monday, contact your local post office. Ask them the reason and request redelivery.
I bet it will show today though! They really do mark as delivered the day before, then deliver next day. Have had it happen several times to me as well, as a Buyer.
