Why can a seller only leave positive feedback?

Question

Buyer gave me negative feedback for a purchase that he handled incorrectly not allowing me to address his issue. How do I respond in feedback without giving them positive feedback?

Sellers have been prohibited from leaving negative feedback for buyers since 2008 and it is against Ebay feedback policy to leave negative comments within a positive feedback.

If you do not want to leave a positive feedback, leave no feedback at all.

Sellers have not been able to leave neutral or negative feedback since 2008. They did this because sellers who received a neutral or negative retaliated back then, which caused many buyers to leave the site. The best you can do now is to respond to the neg feedback in a calm and factual manner.
