Why are you holding onto $400???
I had $401.00 from sales. Last night it said “next payout Jan. 30thâ€. Now it’s Jan. 30th and my payout was 50 cents! I still have around $400 but I can only use it for eBay purchases. Why all of a sudden is eBay keeping my money rather than giving it to me? And why would they give me 50 cents out of the $401 they have and keep the rest?

That sounds frustrating. Here is how to see when you will get paid:
SHORT VERSION
There are a couple of steps the money goes through.
- Processing
- Payment Holds (if any)
- Payout, which happens automatically after any holds.
-- Generally, new or infrequent sellers get the payout when the item is delivered. There are some exceptions when payouts can be held longer, up to 30 days.
1) Try the "Check Payment Holds" button here. It may have more specific details https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4155
- "New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 30 days, although sometimes it may be longer"
- "High priced items or unusual selling patterns may lead to transaction holds for up to 30 days to help us ensure that buyers don't have any issues with the order"
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/payouts-work-managed-payments-sellers/payments-hold?id=4816
2) When eBay sends the Payout, it is 1-3 days before the payment is in your bank account.
The $0.50 is probably from an earlier sale.

OP8 months agoNot much of that makes sense. First, I'm not a "new seller" - I've been on here for years buying and selling. Second, my sales so far this month were a $100 item on Jan 1st, a $50 item on Jan 2nd, an $8 item on Jan 7th, a $45 item on Jan 28th, and a $375 item from Jan 29th. I've received payouts for the items sold on Jan 1st, 2nd and 7th. There is no "50 cent item" that I've sold this month. That's what's so strange. They seem to be holding the funds from the sale of my last two items (I did print shipping labels for these with existing funds and they've deducted the cost of those from available funds). I see no reason for these to be held up when prior items haven't been.

High priced items may lead to transaction holds for up to 30 days
Your "available funds" are a running total, so there may be other fees from other listings and sales intermingled. Each payout can cover multiple transactions.
If you click PayOut ID here, it will have a complete breakdown of that Payout:

My guess
Your fees and shipping labels are deducted, leaving .50 which you got.
Then 375 and 45 are pending.
