Why are sellers forced to cancel sales for non paying bidders?
Between eBay wrongly keeping funds on hold after providing alleged unsent items were shipped and the several times I’ve been forced by eBay to cancel a sale for a non paying bidder, I’m about to scrap eBay entirely! Why if a bid is a binding agreement can a buyer just win an auction and then refuse to follow through and request cancellation and EBay makes us cancel?? Each time I’ve had other watchers and most times other bidders and some clown bids it up and doesn’t pay screwing me over with EBay’s blessing.

Mentor1 year ago@irish196. I recommend requiring buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid or make an offer. The link to do this is near the end of this post.
As a fellow seller I know how frustrating non paying buyers can be.
When a buyer doesn't pay you can cancel the sale after 4 FULL DAYS so on the 5th day cancel as buyer hasn't paid. This gives the non-paying buyer a strike on their account and they also will not be able to leave feedback. Then you relist OR do a second chance offer.
If the buyer receives 2 or more strikes in 12 months then they are blocked from auctions or best offers for one year ( as long as the seller sets this up in account settings) and can only make immediate payment purchases, if they get too many strikes then eBay may remove the buyer from the site.
Do not send an invoice or it starts the clock over again for when you cancel as buyer hasn't paid. eBay sends payment reminders.

Have you set up your buyer requirements in account settings?
Click this link: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements Then block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items in 12 months.
If you are not shipping internationally also block buyers in locations you do not ship to.
Then at the bottom of the screen look for buyer Payment Requirements put a check next to both of these:
Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.
These settings will cut down on your non paying buyer issues. However they also make it so you can't combine shipping. You have to refund the shipping difference after a buyer pays if you wish to combine shipping when these boxes are checked.

OP1 year agoThanks - some of that info is helpful in case I have a non paying buyer again who just won’t pay but the one today which really irks me paid then immediately asked me to cancel the sale because he found it cheaper elsewhere and EBay says I can only refuse to cancel the order if I have shipped it (which I obviously haven’t on a Sunday night). How is that fair??
