why are sellers being permitted to say they "ship from the US" when it comes from outside the US?
Summary: conspi6844 raises a concern about sellers claiming to ship products from the US while actually shipping from locations outside the country. eburtonlab responds, but the content of their response is unspecified.
I have now purchased several items that I expressly requested to 'Ship from the US'. They have and are coming from outside the USA. Are sellers just lying? If so, why is Ebay allowing this? I just received items after one month post order - and it was promised it was shipping from the states and would be received within days - nope, came from China. Why?? I today placed an order - again stating Ships from USA... but is most certainly NOT shipping from the US - at least it's coming from the UK... or so it appears. It still may not reach me until JUNE 20TH. Really? This is ridiculous. Why even ask "where" we want it to ship from if we are going to be deceived? Do better, Ebay.

Sellers are not permitted to do any such thing, but the fact that it is against policy does not actually prevent some unscrupulous sellers from doing just that: lying.
Probably the best way to deal with sellers that misrepresent item location is to avoid them whenever possible. The "US only" item location filter selects items that are listed as being in the United States; however, as you have seen, not every seller that lists items in the US ships from the US as they should.
Before ordering you should check the estimated delivery dates -- that is a good indication of how far away items actually ship from. Also, going to a seller's profile page or feedback page will tell you where the seller's account was registered. Although some overseas sellers do use US warehouses to ship their items (and some registered US-sellers may employ drop-shippers), if a seller is registered overseas, that raises the likelihood of an item shipping from outside the US, particularly for multiple quantity commodity items. Checking seller feedback closely will often reveal if there are problems with long shipping times, canceled orders or other supply chain warning signs, particularly if buyers that encounter problems with drop-shippers leave feedback indicating that.
