Why am I being charged for shipping when it says buyer paid?
Hello, I am in my first week selling here. I have searched this forum for a clear cut answer and contacted eBay, but none of it makes sense. I listed an item for $50.00 and the buyer paid $9.74 for shipping, so the total would’ve been $59.74 for the buyer. When eBay paid me out, they deducted $9.74 from my $50.00 instead of deducting $9.74 from $59.74. What is going on here? Why are they not using the funds the buyer sent for the shipping label and instead charging me? Will I be re-imbursed?

Mentor2 years agoThe buyer pays eBay the item price, plus shipping, plus sales tax (if any).
eBay removes the sales tax amount and remits it to the buyer's state, then removes eBay's fee amount, and the remaining amount including the shipping goes to the seller. If the seller purchases a label through eBay before there is a payout, the shipping amount can be deducted from the payment if the seller has not specified a different payment method.
The seller is required to pay for shipping because the seller is the one that has a package that needs to be shipped.

OP2 years agoSo does that mean I’ll be reimbursed for the shipping that they didn’t deduct from what the buyer paid for shipping? Why would they charge me the 9.74 from 50? Instead of 9.74 from the total 59.74 that was paid by the customer? Seems like they ignored the customers extra amount they paid for the shipping and just charged me instead

OP2 years agoWhat I’m saying is they didn’t use the customer funds for shipping they just charged me and I never even saw the customer shipping funds when I was paid out. Like I just got gauged for shipping when it was listed as buyer pays for shipping @ 9.74 and instead I was charged for it and never saw the 9.74 that is owed to me

1) What was the total amount the buyer paid? [That would include Item price + Shipping + Tax.]
2) What fees did eBay take from buyer’s payment (before sending the money to you)?
You aren’t providing all the numbers in the calculation … which is why it doesn’t make sense.

OP2 years agoI listed an item at $50. I was “paid†59.74. Quotations because it’s still in pending on the site at this point like an escrow. Instead of taking the $9.74 from the $59.74, they deducted $9.74 from $50.94, which came to a total of $41.20. I don’t understand where the 94 cents came from. So instead of receiving the full $50 for the item I listed, I received $41.20 for it because they charged me instead of taking the $9.74 that was supposed to be applied from the customer amount paid.

PLEASE reread my questions.
I need to know the TAX the buyer paid to eBay … and the FEES eBay deducted from buyer’s total payment before sending the funds to you.
You keep providing the same incomplete numbers. eBay should have told you the TOTAL of buyer’s payment (including TAX) … as well as the FEES it removed before sending the funds to you.

OP2 years agoI told you word for word what is on my payments page and what the guy repeated to me several times on the phone. There wasn’t any fees I’m concerned about. They posted -9.74 for shipping and stated they did in fact charge me for shipping. I told you every single thing I have to visually go off of and every single thing the agent on the phone told me. I did not see any fees charged to me other than -$9.74 for the shipping.

I understand you’re new to selling, so may not know where to look for what I’m asking.
eBay charged you fees before sending you money. The fees were probably similar to the amount the buyer paid for shipping … so it APPEARS (to you) that the shipping money was withheld. IT WAS NOT.
You were paid whatever the buyer paid for the item plus shipping … MINUS FEES.

OP2 years agoSo what I’m trying to find out is why would they do this if I blatantly posted the item as buyer pays for shipping and the amount for shipping at $9.74 and completely disregard it and charge me instead.
