why am I being asked to buy a shipping label if my listing says "buyer pays" for shipping?
Is there a way to avoid this or do I just have to jack the price up buy the amount of my shipping label?

OP2 weeks agoWhat I meant was that I didn’t specify the amount. I get it now. I think there was a clearer way to explain that and there definitely was no need to yell by capitalizing YOU in that first response. You set the tone in the first response. Sorry if this is so simple for you. I was just asking a question.

Buyer pays shipping charges = you pay for the shipping label.

If so, I see $15.75 shipping charge (to my location).
Therefore, it should not cost you more than that to purchase the shipping label in order to ship the item, so there is nothing to "factor in" to the price.

OP2 weeks agoYes, it’s the backpack. So in your case would you (as the buyer) be paying half of the 15.75? And the shipping label is the other half? I paid $8-something for the label. So my total sale on a $35 backpack is $27?
I apologize for the multiple questions but this is the first thing that I’ve sold in a while and I just don’t remember how it works. And if I don’t know the shipping charge because I don’t know where the buyer lives at the time that I’m setting the price, then I’m not really sure what to do.

Mentor2 weeks ago · EditedNo, the buyer does not pay for half of the shipping charges. The buyer pays full shipping charges on the listing and you pay for the shipping label to ship the item. The amount the buyer pays for the shipping charges should just about equal what you pay for the label.
The $15.95 is the shipping charges to MY location, other buyers may see a lesser amount depending on their location. If you paid $8 something for the label, it is due to the buyer being closer to you and they would have paid somewhere near $8.
The buyer would have paid $35 + shipping charges + sales tax. You pay for the shipping label. Your Ebay payout will be the total amount the buyer paid minus Ebay selling fees.
You do not need to know the location of your buyer because the shipping charges are calculated based on buyer location. As I said it showed $15.75 to my location. When I changed the zip code location in the shipping details, it showed a cheaper amount of shipping charges.

Mentor2 weeks agoNo the buyer paid the full $15.75 and you used that for the shipping label so if it cost you $8 you got an extra 7.75 to pocket,

Mentor2 weeks ago@momtoabeautifuldaughter The seller used calculated shipping, so the $15.75 was according to MY location when I entered my zip in the shipping details. When I entered a random zip code closer to the seller I got approx. $8. The seller pockets nothing in that case.

Mentor2 weeks agoYOU have to pay for the shipping label to ship the item to the buyer. The buyer pays you (through Ebay) for the shipping charges you specified on your listing. The buyer cannot pay for the shipping label since YOU are the one to ship the item.
The money the buyer paid for shipping will be part of your Ebay payout.

OP2 weeks agoOkayyyyyy. Once again, I didn’t specify shipping charges because I didn’t know what they would be. Anyway, it is what it is so I’ll just accept it. I’m tired of trying to make sense of this.

The one/only recent sale by eBay ID "krigregor2" absolutely does specify shipping charges were to be paid by the buyer.
You state that you paid "$8-something" for the shipping label.
When I look at your sold listing, the shipping price shown for my zip code is $8.05.
This means that, if I had been the purchaser of your $35.00 item, I would have paid $43.05. (I won't talk about sales taxes, because that is irrelevant to your specific question about paying for shipping.)
Simplified:
Your buyer bought a backpack for $35 and he/she paid "$8-something" for shipping.
YOU received, through eBay, $43-something.
($35.00 + $8-something = $43-something.)
When you paid "$8-something", to/through eBay, for the shipping label, you were spending the $8-something that your buyer paid to you.
BTW, it seems apparent that you are using eBay's Calculated Shipping prices.
Each potential buyer that looks at a listing that has Calculated Shipping pricing will see the shipping price to his/her own zip code, based also on the weight and dimensions of the package, which are added to the listing when the seller creates it. This saves you, the seller, from trying to figure out the different postage based on where your buyer lives or wants the item delivered.
