Who receives the tax money collected when there is a return
Purchased a pair of slacks $12.95 $9.00 shipping 1.81 tax. I am returning them, seller is paying return shipping. They are refunding me $14.01 ( $12.95 , 1.06 tax). I am confused this doesn't appear right to me. Why is the tax amount less? Not a big deal but I don't understand why. Anybody?

Mentor3 years agoIt sounds like the shipping was taxable. Since the shipping is not being refunded the tax on the shipping would also not be refunded. That portion would still be paid to your state.
