Who pays when an item is stolen in transit?
My buyer received an envelope with an item I sold and it was slit open and the item was stolen. Do I have to pay the buyer back or does eBay offer any protection for this scenario?

Ask the buyer for photos of the envelope, then refund the buyer. Ask them to hold the envelope - they may have to take it to their PO for inspection.
