Who is responsible for return shipping ?
I sold a baseball bat with a crack on the end cap. The damage was clearly shown in the photos and noted in the description as “end cap is cracked and damaged.†Despite this, the buyer opened a return request under “doesn’t work or defective.†and wrote “crack is worse than I thought†in the notes. (All of my listings are marked as no returns.)
Can a buyer still select “defective†as the reason even when the issue was fully disclosed? And more importantly—who is responsible for the return shipping in this case? eBay won’t let me charge the buyer for the label due to the selected reason, but it doesn’t seem fair since the damage was clearly communicated.
I haven’t faced this specific issue before, so I was curious if anyone else has and might have some advice.

If the buyer has opened a return through eBay, the seller has to refund. If you want the bat back, send a return shipping label and refund when you get it back.
