Who can close a cancel request?
I am trying to understand what the actual eBay process is here, because right now it feels contradictory.
I placed and paid for an order, then submitted a cancellation request. After that, I told the seller to disregard the request and proceed with the order as usual. The problem is that on my end, I can only see the cancellation details. I do not see any option anywhere to withdraw, close, or cancel the cancellation request itself. What is frustrating is that eBay’s own help pages seem to indicate that a seller can approve or decline a buyer’s cancellation request within 3 days, and that if the seller does not respond, the request closes and the paid order proceeds as usual. Meanwhile, the seller is telling me that none of that is possible, that they cannot do anything at all on their end, that the entire order is on hold because of my request, and that only I can fix it. So I am trying to figure out which of these is actually true:
- Can a seller still decline or ignore a buyer’s cancellation request and then proceed with the order?
- If so, why would the seller be claiming they are completely unable to do anything?
- If not, where exactly is the buyer-side option to close or withdraw the request, because I am not seeing it anywhere in the order details?
I am not trying to make trouble for the seller. I am trying to understand the actual workflow, because eBay’s help text and the seller’s claims do not seem to match. If anyone has dealt with this exact situation before, I would appreciate a clear explanation of who actually has control of the request once it has been opened.

The buyer can request a cancellation and the seller can accept it or decline it. If you message the seller to request that he disregard the cancellation request, he still has the same two options.
There is no action you can take on this...the decision is wholly up to the seller.
Your seller sounds new or uninformed about what he can and can't do with the request. Hopefully he will just go ahead and ship to you.
For the future, please decide whether you want an item BEFORE you buy it. It's not only confusing when you keep changing your mind, but cancellations cost sellers time and money they can't recoup.
