When must a buyer pay for an accepted offer

Question

I have a BIN listing with immediate payment required. A buy asked for a better price and I sent reply with offer which was accepted. Buyer then sent message noting that they would need 4 days to pay - which they say is provided to them as per ebay policy. I have searched for but have not found this policy. Can anyone provide a link to this policy? Thnak

The Immediate Payment Requirement only applies to fixed price items purchased using buy-it-now.

Bids and offers are not necessarily always subject to immediate payment, though they can be in some cases.

eBay is experimenting with requiring a payment method for some users making a bid or an offer, but until eBay extends this policy to all users, a seller cannot be assured of an immediate payment on an auction or when accepting an offer.

The first statement on that page is "Buyers must pay for the items they purchase on eBay within 4 calendar days." I'm glad I looked that up. I was thinking that it was four business days.

There is no policy about how long a buyer has to pay.
BUT, eBay allows sellers 4 days (96 hours) before they can cancel for nonpayment.

Do not send invoices. That will reset the 4 day timer.

The policy is that you can cancel the transaction after 4 days if the buyer doesn't pay. That essentially gives him four days to pay. You have 30 days to cancel for non-payment, so you can give the buyer more than 4 days, but it's usually better not to drag it out.

If a buyer hasn't paid by day 5, select the cancellation option in the dropdown next to the order using the reason that the buyer hasn't paid. The buyer will earn an unpaid item strike on his account. Two or more and his ability to buy will be limited or even ended.

Scroll down that page and turn on the option to auto-block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items within 12 months. That will help to protect you from repeat offenders.

(I would recommend NOT sending an additional invoice as stated in the help link as it extends the time the buyer has to pay. )
