When does eBay pay out for items without delivery tracking?
Summary: danielrbennett is confused about the payout timing for items sold with "eBay standard envelope" shipping, which lacks delivery confirmation. They noted that some tracking is available but doesn't indicate delivery, leading to uncertainty about when funds will be released. jacbarcollectibles responded, explaining that without delivery tracking, eBay holds funds for 30 days and that the seller might receive a late shipping defect due to the lack of confirmed shipping time.
I've recently started selling, and I'm a bit confused on the timing of payouts for certain items. Items I've sold with delivery confirmation usually pay out a couple of days after the item has been confirmed to be delivered. However, I've also sold items (for less than the other items) that do not come with delivery confirmation -- "eBay standard envelope," I think the shipping is called. While it does include some tracking information, like scanning through the post office system at some points, it doesn't indicate when the item has been delivered.
My question is, when does eBay consider those items delivered for the purpose of paying its sellers? I cannot find a straight answer about this.
For example, one such item sold on August 21, was mailed in the day or two, then shows a scan through the post office on August 25 in the same city as the buyer's mailing address. Since then, however, there has been no update, and no indication of when funds will be released.
Please help me understand this process. Thank you!

Mentor1 month agoWithout tracking eBay will hold the funds for 30 days. Also, you will receive a late shipping defect on your account since eBay will not know if you shipped within your stated handling time.

OP1 month agoThat's annoying. I purchased the eBay label as instructed and there was a scan at some point in the process, so maybe that'll count for something. Regardless, thanks for the timeline update -- I couldn't figure it out on the website.
