Summary: vintageretrovanity shared their experience of selling three items on eBay, highlighting the challenges faced when the package tracking ceased and the buyer received a refund. Despite combining shipping and providing excellent service, they expressed frustration over losing their payment, shipping costs, selling fees, promotional fees, and packaging material costs without any compensation. They questioned the fairness of the system, noting that while buyers are protected, sellers face significant losses despite adhering to best practices.
I sold three like items, I combined shipping, partially refunding the buyer the difference. I packaged well and diligently mailed it out. My profit was about $44 minus selling fees, promotional fees, and packaging materials. The items tracking abruptly stopped after moving through different offices. the buyer opened a case and is granted a refund as he should be protected in such ways. that is a demonstration of a company doing right by their customers. good practices. and then you have the other end, me the seller. also a customer as well as a contributor to eBay's very profits! The case gets closed. I lose the payment I had received for all three items. I do not get compensated the shipping. I do not get back my selling fees. I do not get back my promotional fees. I do not get back the cost of packaging materials. I do not get back my time. I did everything by the book going above and beyond to maintain a good seller status. and this is how I'm left. what's wrong here?

Once it is one day past the estimated delivery date, a Buyer can open an Item Not Received refund request. The Seller then has three business days to respond with either a valid tracking number showing it's still in transit or a full refund.
If the Seller doesn't respond, eBay will step in and force the refund. The Seller then gets a serious defect on their account and do not get their selling fees back.
If the Seller refunds on their own, there's no defect and the selling fees are returned.
If the Seller used an eBay label and refunds their Buyer from the INR case, once eBay can see the package was delivered, eBay will reimburse the Seller.
