what to do when cell phone i purchased was represented as unlocked but it is actually locked
I'd like to contact eBay customer service about this because the item description was incorrect. i'd like to be compensated because I had to buy another new phone, which I wouldn't have had to do if this phone actually was unlocked, as advertised. I am out of the return time frame because I didn't go to get it activated in time but when an Ebay Electonics item is sold, with inaccurate information, saying it is unlocked when it was locked and needs to be activated by ATT totalwireless, I think the seller should be responsible for misrepresentation. Anyone know how I can contact Ebay customer service about this? Thanks

Return the locked phone for a full refund. You have 30 days from the date of receipt to open a return.
Go to your purchase history - select return this item. Under reason for return, select does not match the description, and follow the prompts.
The seller has 3 business days to send you a return label or a refund. If he doesn't, or says he can not send a label, go to your case and click 'ask us to step in'.

OP2 years agoThanks for this response. Problem being I am out of the open return window because i didn't try to activate the phone within that window. I thought a read, somewhere, in the many years i have been buying and selling on Ebay, that electronics have certain criteria/expectations of accuracy in their listing, info that some other selling categories don't have.. thanks again!

All listings must be accurate, but they are all governed by the 30 day money back guarantee, unless your seller happens to offer 60 day returns.
If you are outside of the 30 day window, contact your credit card issuer, or PayPal if you paid through them. Ask them to open a dispute for an item not as described. Most can help for 180 days after purchase.
