What is the best way to ship a western/cowboy hat?

Have several western/cowboy hats I would like to sell but I don't want shipping to get outrageous. What are the best size boxes for hats like this? What is the best packing method? Thanks

You know those gorillas down at the shipping depot are going to drop an automobile engine on it, or would if they had one. I hate to receive parcels that have been crushed.

You will need a box large enough to cover the circumference of the brim plus a couple of inches extra for bubble wrap. I don't have a cowboy hat handy to measure, but I would guess 15 x 15 x 8 . If using USPS, there is Ground Advantage, but I would also compare against Fed Ex and UPS. Check around for boxes sold at Wal-Mart and office supply stores, as well as U-Haul if you don't have any local stores that sell cardboard boxes.
