What is going on with calculated shipping?????
Sold an item with calculated shipping.
Ebay charged the buyer $11.91 for shipping (ridiculously low).
Same day I go to buy the label - keep in mind this is calculated with same info I gave in the listing that the buyer paid on - and the label would cost $19.02.
That's a difference of almost 60%!!!!
Spoke to support. Agents advice was to tell the buyer you are cancelling the sale and relist the item so they can pay for it again.
The agent doesn't understand what happened and isn't sure it won't happen again.
If it did happen again, then he'd open a ticket to figure out the pricing issue.
What buyer is going to stick with a purchase through such nonsense?
It is ridiculous. So I'm just going to eat the extra shipping costs (and definitely not buy the label from ebay, it is cheaper elsewhere).
Has anyone else encountered this?

Those extra shipping costs that you did, in fact, pay ("eat") -- may possibly be deductible as business expenses when you are completing your income tax return.
If this transaction occurred during these last 10 days, i.e., in January of 2026, you wouldn't be able to deduct them until you do your income taxes for 2026 -- early in 2027.

OP8 months agoDeductible doesn't make something free. That just reduces your income by the expense times your tax rate.
The issue here is that eBay has a problem. Clearly.

Here's how to use calculated shipping when listing your items:

OP8 months agoUmmmm thanks for the tutorial. I'm sure you felt that seemed helpful in this situation.
If it wasn't calculated shipping, there would be no mystery.
