What happens to payments and credits made from or to an expired credit card account?

I did not realize that eBay was using a current credit card for all activity except when an item was returned, it switched to an expired card for crediting my account. What happens when they credit an expired account?

Credits go back to the bank account the card was issued from; if you received a new card with a new number, the new card should be able to access the credited funds through the same bank account.

If you closed the credit card bank account, contact your bank to see how refunds to closed accounts are handled.
