what happens to items when they have been listed for a while

I noticed I used to have more listings and for some reason they are no longer active. Do they automatically drop off after 1 year? If so where do they go? I can not find an item I just sold in my inventory. I wanted to remove it but I can't find it

You have 243 active listings. They are all fixed price, so they are GTC-Good Til Cancelled. Each one renews on the same day the following month if they have not sold. At one time, ebay sent a message that this listing has not sold for x number of months, and suggests changing the price and/or description. I don't know if they still do that.
