What do I do as a seller?
I sold an item and shipped it, and the post office has left it sitting for six weeks now undelivered. I have contacted the post office at least six times, I have started a case, I am waiting to hear back from them. My customer is asking for a refund which I totally understand. But when I contacted the post office and ask them to send the package back to me they said they cannot. They said it Has to be delivered to who it addressed to. What am I supposed to do, give a refund, and then have the package go to the customers so I end up giving my item to the customer for free? The post office has absolutely no excuse in my opinion for leaving my package trapped in one of their post office since January 23. I understand that they won’t do Jack for me, they said about $100 worth of insurance. The product I sold was $250. Please give me some advice as I only have until the 29th to resolve this. Thank you

OP2 years agoAs far as I know the package went from College Station Texas, to Missouri city Texas which is just west of Houston 90 miles from me. The post office at first told me that they were having difficulties at that facility with their machine sorting mail properly. But that seems like a big excuse.

Actually one of the big TX sorting centers has been in the national news lately - they are having significant problems. I don’t think they are just making excuses, or that your package has been stolen. Try an internet search for TX mail delay and you’ll see the reports.
When I said PO I meant the local post office, not police 🙂 . But since it is TX, I wouldn’t waste the time trying to call them. They are not holding the package at a post office - you are just seeing the most recent scan.
I would submit a claim as well as request the intercept. https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm The claim only gets you $100 back unless you added more insurance, but $100 is better than $0.

I would request a package intercept so that the package can be returned to you. For $250 it would be worth the $18 plus return shipping.

Then refund the buyer in full.
Did the PO say why the package was not delivered? Have you called the local PO to find out why it is still there?

OP2 years agoThe package went from my town, to a post office about 90 miles away from me. It has been there every since, when I called the post office they say that it’s never been scanned since it left college station. When I asked them if they could just return the package to me so that I can give the customer a refund they said they couldn’t I didn’t know about the $18 thing for getting the package back. So I’ll look into that as well. I made a case on this about a weeks two weeks ago. I called on Friday to ask why it still hadn’t been delivered, and I ended up starting a case with the post office inspectors. I’m waiting till tomorrow to hear from them according to what they said, they had three business days which would be Monday Tuesday Wednesday to contact me with information as to why it hasn’t moved since I first sent it.

As far as I know the police department has not been contacted. I did call the post office inspectors and said that I wanted to report my package stolen by the post office.
