Was outbid, now the highest bidder on an item i got elsewhere!
I was outbid a few days ago, bought the item from another online seller (not ebay) and now im the highest bidder again! Help!
Apparently the bid that outbid me, got canceled. But I've already found the item elsewhere and don't need this one anymore. Since I was notified of the change while sleeping, I'm less than 12 hours out from the auction closing and can't cancel my bid. How do I fix this??

OP2 years agoI see. I guess my frustration/confusion is that I was outbid 48 hours ago and only within the last 12 hours was I notified it was back on me. I've read the terms a while back but don't remember anything about being on the hook till the end of the auction. Can you help me find that warning?

·2 years agoLast I saw it was on My eBay: Bids/Offers: Bidding if you had an outbid bid in the list. I don't have any outbid bids to check if it is still there (I almost never have any bids pending for more than 6 seconds). I can no longer find it in the Help Pages now. It used to be displayed in every outbid notice but the PR types who seem to have taken over writing notices and Help Pages and Policy Pages tend to want to put PR type stuff (like urging you to bid again if you are immediately outbid rather than warning you against this situation) and removed it from those years ago, and now it looks like from the Help Pages also.
ETA: When the seller chooses not to cancel and you don't have a valid reason (you don't) to retract, you honor your promise to follow eBay's rules and hope you are outbid. If you win you can try again with the seller; there is a way for a buyer to initiate a Transaction Cancellation case within the first hour after the transaction (end of auction--Purchase History: More actions: Ask to cancel order) https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buyers-can-cancel-order/buyers-can-cancel-order?id=4004&st=12&pos=1&query=How%20buyers%20can%20cancel%20an%20order&intent=buyer%20cancel&docId=HELP1019#section1 and the seller has 3 days to reject it (if you haven't paid the cancellation goes through if the 3 days goes by without the seller taking action). Other than that you can try the seller again to see if s/he will do a Transaction Cancellation at your request (again, s/he is under no duty to do so or respond and can choose to file the Unpaid Item Dispute after 4 days instead), or pay, or take a UID strike, or hope s/he dithers around for a month until it's too late for him/her to open a UID.

·2 years agoThat is not a valid reason to force a cancellation under eBay rules anyway, even before the last 12 hours. The other bidder might or might have a valid reason to do so, but yours is not valid. eBay warns you not to do what you did (not very prominently).
You may contact the seller and beg him/her to cancel your bid before the auction ends, but s/he is under no obligation to do so nor to acknowledge the request, and neither not responding nor responding that it's OK with him/her nor that s/he doesn't know how is among the valid reasons.
