Was charged 30% on an item for no good reason.
I’ve been selling with eBay for 14 years and have never had much issue with selling fees until today. I was charged 30% of the items sale price which completely obliterated any profit I would have made selling it. eBay refuses to refund part of that fee and now I’m left with nothing. I’m never going to sell with eBay ever again. Outright price gouging on fees and no help whatsoever recovering any of it. This was a final F U from eBay to their sellers and I caution anyone trying to sell on this platform that eBay will absolutely rip you off at every chance they get.

I suspect what you are seeing is that eBay charges their fee on the total from the buyer, not just the item price. Since the shipping and tax was probably more than the item on your latest sale (from what I can see), it makes it look like 30% of the item.
Since the fees are clearly stated, there is nothing for them to refund.

OP2 years agoWhy am I paying fees on the shipping price when the buyer is the one who paid for the shipping? Why is any kind of fee getting tacked onto a shipping price? eBay is just ripping people off

·2 years agoThe eBay fees are charged on the amount the buyer pays shipping included.
It has been this way for many years.

They changed it more than 10 years ago, because sellers would charge $1 for the item and $20 for the shipping. Plus, this way, the seller who charges for shipping and the seller that offer ‘free’ shipping by putting it in the item price pay the same fees.
They are not ripping people off - the %s went down each time they changed how the fees were calculated. You either feel that the service is worth the fee or you don’t - the math should not change that perception. There is no perfect formula - when shipping is a high % of the item, you feel like you pay way too much. When you sell with local pickup, you get a bargain.
