Warning to Sellers
Back in January I sold an item on eBay for $500. Two days prior to making the purchase, the Purchaser asked me a specific question about the garment via Messages. I answered the question. The purchaser bought the item and I shipped it to her. A few days later I got a return request. Due to the nature of the garment, it was ineligible for return. She then opened a case with eBay claiming I misrepresented the garment, referring to the element she had asked about in the Messages. When EBay looked into the case, they ruled in my favor. They stated that 'buyer's remorse' was not an adequate reason for demanding a return on an ineligible for return item. The Buyer then began harrassing me with messages until I finally had to ask her to stop bothering me or that I would report her to the authorities. The Purchaser then contacted her bank and requested a chargeback. EBay contacted me, and I explained that she had harrassed me and needed her to leave me alone. On April 11, EBay deducted $500 from my account. When I called about the issue, they blamed it on her bank. They also declined to let me open up an appeal. So at the end of the day, the Buyer kept the garment, AND got a full refund. Basically, she stole the item from me, and EBay will do nothing to resolve the problem. They advertise seller protection, but it is a lie. I got screwed out of merchandise with no compensation. EBay facilitated the sale, but what they really did was facilitate FRAUD. I'm going to appear on a news story on an Atlanta television station in 3 weeks and am going to call out EBay for facilitating FRAUD. I've already filed reports with the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission. Just be aware...EBay will do nothing to prevent you from getting Scammed by a FRAUDSTER BUYER. Beware.

Sorry it happened, you apparently used the No returns accepted setting which limits your Seller protections when you try to fight a return. There is no protection for any Seller if a customer files a dispute with either PayPal or their credit card company.
Selling on eBay is Retail sales and returns will happen whether Sellers like it or not and regardless of their Return policy. My view has always been the No returns accepted setting should be limited to Parts only or Junk value items sold on the venue but even then, Buyers need protection against Sellers who scam them.
At the end of the day, the real criminal in this is the Buyer ... they apparently know the system and how to work it ... it is no different than shoplifting at a store except there is no infrastructure for catching and prosecuting internet sales criminals ...
Had you accepted the return you could have gotten the item back and resold it.

OP1 year agoThe item was not ineligible for return by choice. The item was a leotard with a sanitary strip. It is illegal for an item like this to be returned and resold. The same law applies to swimsuits.

OP1 year agoRegardless, I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission. I am also doing an interview on a local Consumer Investigative Report. Additionally, I contacted CEO Jamie Iannone. Hopefully, he will settle the complaint prior to receiving negative press.
