Vintage Collectable Destroyed in Shipping : How to file claim for value vs sold price & who files?
I sold a vintage collectible , glass compote, on an offer to buyer, so “on sale†. The buyer messaged last night, stating that the item was completely destroyed and shattered, and that it was very obvious that it was perfectly packed and that they didn’t understand how it got broken. They’ve sent me photos of the exterior of the box. The item all the packing materials. They’re very upset because it’s something that is very hard to find. I’m upset because it was a beautiful piece and they’re no longer made. My question is as when I file the claim , ( I think I the seller has to) how do I ensure that I’m getting what it will cost me to replace versus what the buyer paid (the sales price) does anyone know?

Mentor9 months agoSorry but you cannot get the value of the item just what the item sold for. If shippers paid claims based on the sellers perceived value of the item they would get the most ridiculous values sellers would want them to pay off.

OP9 months agoThanks, I figured. So I, the seller, needs to initiate refund; ask buyer to maintain possession of destroyed merchandise; then I file claim. Am I correct? I’ve never had anything like this happen so I’m a bit in the dark. Thanks for your time.
