VAT handling when shipping to France outside the EU
Hello!!
I would like to clarify how VAT and import taxes are handled for buyers in France?
I noticed that the same item listed on my account shows a higher price on the eBay France site compared to the base listing price. The item is shipped from outside the EU.
Could anyone please help to confirm:
- Whether items purchased on eBay France from sellers outside the EU include all applicable VAT and import taxes at checkout, and
- Whether the higher price displayed on the France site represents VAT being included or an estimated total payable by the buyer.
I want to ensure I understand whether buyers in France are paying all required taxes upfront through eBay, or if additional charges may still be collected upon delivery.
Thank you for your clarification.

I can only tell you that US buyers do have to pay tariffs on ALL items shipped from another country to the US. The tariff charged based on the country the item was manufactured in, which is not necessarily the same as the sellers country.
There only two ways that I am aware of custom fees/ tariffs being included is when a Seller that is based in the US or the UK ships using the eBay International Shipping Program, or the Global Shipping Program. Then the buyer can choose to pay fees at checkout.
OR the seller is shipping from Japan Or China and using SpeedPak. Then the tariffs are prepaid.
For more information on how import fees are handled on the eBay France site I recommend asking the France community here> https://communaute.ebay.fr/t5/Aide-entre-membres/bd-p/Aideentremembres1
