Vacation mode failures
I have been kicked out of top seller status because of failures in the vacation mode.
I frequently leave town for business and need to pause sales for about a week at a time. Every time I go away, someone still has the ability to purchase something as I'm getting on the plane.
Example: I'm leaving Monday-Friday
I have my vacation mode set to no sales monday-friday.
Monday at the airport I get a notification that I sold something and need to mail it by Thursday.
Obviously something bad will happen. What I always do is just cancel the order, and ask the buyer for forgiveness for the mishap. I don't want to be known as a late shipper (because it will knock down my seller status)... but now I have a lower status for canceling orders!
This is 100% an ebay problem!
How can I navigate vacation mode? Also, while away for 10+ days, sometimes the buyer is unaware that my shipping time is delayed. They claim that they never saw the automated "buyer is away and will ship the item when they return" message. It makes people unhappy to learn that they have to wait 2 weeks for their stuff.

That sounds frustrating.
It sounds like auctions with pre-existing bids or best offers.
In eBay seller accounts, Cancelling a Sale for Out of Stock is worse than shipping late.
Also, on Time Away, delivery dates won't be updated for:

OP2 years agoThank-you for your replies. It is very frustrating because when I list, I generally set an auto-accept price. This is probability the reason why I continue to get sales while I'm away!
This will take me a whole day to undo all of these listing's!
Ebay needs to resolve these issues. I had no idea that cancellation is worse than late shipping

Mentor2 years agoYou can remove auto accept using bulk edit on the website from any listing that can be revised (no bids or outstanding best offers)
You will need Seller Hub, if you do not have it, here is how to Opt-In to Seller Hub: https://www.ebay.com/sh/landing
Then to Bulk Edit:
1) Go to your active listings in Seller Hub: https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active
2) Check the box beside each listing you want to make a change to. (start with just 2 listings - later just pick them all)
3) Click "Edit Selected" from the drop-down list
Once Bulk Edit opens,
1) Select your items again, then
2) Bulk Edit
3) Pricing > Offers <<==
4) Allow Offers > Remove Auto Accept Amount <<==
5) Apply
6) Submit All
7) Confirm and Submit
😎 Done

Late Shipping is bad, it just isn't as bad as canceling for out of stock (or not resolving a case)
When you see the next eBay Seller Update - it's an online event - it's a great thing to plan to do in order to network
