USPS Reduction in Inbound/Outbound Pickups at Local Post Offices Nationwide effective 10/27/2023
I was informed by my local USPS Postmaster that effective Friday, October 27, 2023, USPS will reduce its inbound mail delivery and outbound mail pickups at local Post Offices nationwide to ONE truck transaction per day, Monday through Friday and eliminate service on Saturday. For my local USPS Post Office this is more than a 50% reduction in service in mail transit service.
So what is the impact for me as an eBay seller - especially during the upcoming busy holiday season? If my packages are not at the Post Office by 11:00 AM, they will not be picked up until the next business weekday. This could result in a 24 hour delay in transit time Monday through Thursday, and a 72 hour (3 day) delay on Fridays as there is now no Saturday pick up and the next weekday pickup would be Monday. This will have significant impact on package transit times and could result in delivery delays of orders.
Sellers using USPS may want to check with their local USPS Postmasters on this change and how it may effect order transit and delivery times for your areas. Supposedly, USPS will be surveying customers on this change of service.

OP2 years agoSo I spoke with the Postmaster again about this changed policy and if there were any public notices. She advised that to her knowledge there is no public notice to reference about this change. It does appear to be a policy which is on "trial run" with the Postmaster General asking the local postmasters to respond to a survey internally.
All I can say is that it has caused a mess at my local PO.
Will continue posting updates as they become available.

Mentor2 years agoDid your postmaster tell you the outbound truck leaves at 11:00 am? My post office's truck leaves at 5:00 - 6:00pm.
If you receive an acceptance scan on the day you ship, you won't receive any dings to your metrics. If there will be no outbound trucks on Saturdays, then the transit time provided by USPS to eBay used to calculate the estimated delivery date should include that extra day.
My post office had an outbound truck as usual last Saturday. I found nothing online about a change like this. Can you point to an announcement? Or ask your postmaster for link to the announcement?

OP2 years agoI will ask if there is some type of announcement available for the public and post my findings.
The truck here is coming earlier at 11:00 - 11:30 AM now. The afternoon truck run has been eliminated.
I understand that once USPS scans in acceptance of the package, transit times for packages are out of the seller's hands. However, during holiday time - imagine the chaos coming because of transit times being delayed. We will all have to be on our toes working faster to get packages out as soon as possible.
