The labels eBay is selling its customers for shipping items such as used mobile phones are incorrect. They sell a GROUND label with a big captial G in the upper left corner (which is what it's always been for the electronics I've sold).
But now, USPS is enforcing the label to be marked hazardous with a big captial H in the upper left corner. So I had to cancel the label I bought from eBay for $8 and pay directly to USPS $18 to ship the item, which of course, cut into my net payout.
Just wanted everybody to be aware of this. I have called eBay to report this discrepancy in how they're handling labels and selling them to customers and hopefully they'll get these labels updated in the near future.

OP4 months agoAhh, I DO see that option on the app.
How incredibly DUMB that is!
Ok, thanks for the help with this, but eBay really needs to get their website in sync in terms of options...

Mentor4 months ago@ratphace. That is odd that the change option didn't show for you on a computer, that's where my screen shot is from. I'm going to report this to eBay staff as the change option should be available no matter what device you are using.

Mentor4 months ago@rfmtm Here are the steps to request a Hazardous mail label> EDIT TO ADD, This is on the create a label page.
ratphace
OP4 months agoThanks, but is this option available AFTER the item is sold and when selecting a label? I seriously don't ever recall seeing those options...
rfmtm
Mentor4 months agoYes, it is on the create label page when you are ready to print the label.

OP4 months agoHi again. I just sold a phone and when I go to print it's only showing me a label that doesn't contain hazardous material. It's NOT allowing me to change it.
The pencil is grayed out. Any help here would be appreciated!
I chose buy label, I added the extra protection and here is what its showing me:
Again, no option to choose hazardous?

Mentor4 months ago@ratphace. It looks like you are not on the advanced label page. Look on the upper right of the label page and see if it says switch to advanced. I wish that eBay would just have one shipping label page!
Once you are on the advanced page then you will see the screen that looks like the one I shared screenshots of already. Do NOT buy the label until you change to the hazardous label setting.
You will need to cancel this label>
You can void/ cancel the label within 28 days of purchasing it from the actions drop down menu next to the label on this page>
https://www.ebay.com/ship/labels/seller-hub
Then the postal service will refund you in about 3-4 weeks on your all transactions page here>

OP4 months agoThanks for the reply!
I see no options at all to get to anything advanced 😞
Is there a menu somewhere I am just not seeing?
Here is my entire label page:

Mentor4 months ago@ratphace. Are you using a computer or other device?

Mentor4 months agoHi @ratphace
This is a USPS change, not an eBay change. USPS wants to be able to identify hazmat items when sorting, hence the "H" in the corner of the label.
ratphace
OP4 months agoYes, I think that's what I said, except I had no option to print the correct kind of label. eBay knows what it is that I am selling and should just automatically generate the CORRECT type of label for a used phone. That is the point that I was alluding to. If USPS makes a change, eBay needs to adapt and provide the correct type of label.
rfmtm
Mentor4 months agoEbay does not control how you ship, it is up to you to choose whatever method you want that is suitable to put in the listing and ultimately when printing a label.
See the next post to select hazardous.
rfmtm
Mentor4 months agoNew phones can still ship regular Ground Advantage all others (used, refurbished, etc.) ship as Hazardous. Ebay allows to to print either type of the label as needed.

OP4 months agoI could not find any option to print a hazmat item in the label options, so if they do have this option, they've made it hard to find or unintuitive.
