USPS Parcel Select Ground Delivery Time
I had a quantity of 3 products available that I sold and shipped with USPS Parcel Select Ground. 2 out of the 3 were delivered to separate buyers within 5 business days, but the final package still hasn't been delivered to my last buyer, and my buyer has opened a request/dispute. It's been around 20 days since I shipped that package, and I assumed that USPS didn't update the status on their end so I thought it was delivered. Guess not...
The tracking information shows that the product will be delivered late, but that was 15 days ago. When I went to my local USPS, they told me that it's not uncommon for it to take this long. If that's the case, why did the other 2 packages get delivered within 5 days to even further destinations for the other 2 buyers? (This is all within the contiguous US).
How can I assure that I'll still get paid for this? I'm afraid my buyer will want a refund, then I'll be stuck in the hole the price of the product and shipping. AND USPS probably lost the product so I'm the one that's going to be screwed the most. Should I keep telling the buyer to wait since USPS says it's in the network, but just running late? This is really just an all around bad experience.

Mentor3 years agoGround shipping delivery time depends on the volume of packages. I have had the same experience, where most get delivered in under a week, then one takes way longer. I had one where I refunded, then it was delivered a week later. I always check priority shipping - it is often just a tiny bit more, and well worth the difference compared to the hassle of parcel select.
You can submit a missing mail request at usps.com, but it really doesn't help on ground shipping. If you item is in a truck waiting to be consolidated with additional shipments heading the same way, there is nothing you can do but wait.
I arranged with my buyer for him to repay the refund if/when delivered, and he did. You can see if your buyer is agreeable to this, but eBay can not force him to repay the refund.
Don't make eBay decide the claim - you want to refund voluntarily.

OP3 years agoThanks for your helpful reply. I purchased the label through eBay, so if I were to refund the buyer, would USPS still deliver the package if they ever find it in their network? Or would it be returned to me?

Mentor3 years agoIt will be delivered to the buyer. Very few packages are totally lost - almost all eventually turn up.
They will open a damaged package to try to complete the delivery or return to sender - if there is something in the package to identify where it is going or where it came from if the label gets damaged, it will get there.
If there is nothing to identify the to or from, it goes to the undeliverable mail center in GA - this is why you want to submit a missing mail search if the package doesn’t get delivered within about 30 days. You can add a photo to help with the search.
I forgot to mention package intercept to have a package returned to you - it is $15, and I don’t know if parcel select packages qualify, but if interested, check here - https://www.usps.com/manage/package-intercept.htm
