USPS inadvertently scanned package in as delivered when I dropped it off to be shipped
Here's the scoop - I dropped off two packages to my local post office shortly after 5pm on 2/12. I get a message from both of those buyers the next day stating that I shipped to the incorrect address. I go and check tracking and it shows delivered to PO Box at my own post office the same time I dropped it off. I went into the post office the next day, they looked at the tracking number in their system and it shows it is correctly on its way to the actual final destination. I communicated with my buyer my findings. USPS stated that the tracking information should automatically update once it was actually delivered.
Two days later, I get another message from one of my buyers with an open case stating I shipped to the incorrect address and is requesting a refund. I go back to my local post office and in their internal system, it shows the package was delivered to the correct address for the buyer on 2/15. However, since the USPS tracking website shows it delivered to my own post office, the buyer is saying I shipped it incorrectly. I asked the person at my local post office if there was a way for them to update USPS tracking website and they said no. I asked them if they could print out confirmation of delivery to correct address and they said they could not provide me anything to show that the package was delivered to the correct address and advised me to tell my buyer that the person at the post office confirmed it was delivered.
Well, I am between a rock and a hard place now. Buyer is going to win ebay case because USPS tracking shows delivered but not to address buyer provided. USPS admitted the mistake, but cannot give me proof. I am going to be out the money for the item, the shipping costs, and the remainder of what buyer paid for the item. I even tried filing a missing package claim to try and get USPS to email me something saying where package was even delivered to but I have to wait 45 days to file (which is well after the date for ebay to make determination).
I have read many posts of people having similar issues but was not able to find a positive resolution for the seller. Hoping someone else out there may have an idea of what I can do. Thank you
