USPS First Class Mail Option
So why can I list an item for First Class delivery by US Post Office, but when I actually go to ship, that option is not available?
The USPS "Ground Advantage" is about $1.50 more than First Class and this is for a small package that weighs 4-6 ounces. This is of concern to be when I offer shipping included. If I can't use FC for these items when they sell, I need to raise the item price to account for the higher shipping cost.

OP2 years agoWent to post office to mail my packages first class and the agent told me PO no longer ships ANY packages First Class - have to use Ground Advantage and they were going to charge me over $5 for a 5 small ounce nearly flat parcel. So you really CANNOT use FC for anything. I think eBay should remove that option when we enter an item that has dimensions or weight that can no longer be accommodated by PO.
Sorry I did not know about this earlier. I will ship out the two purchases made under my listing where I pay postage (posted using FC as the shipping cost) and then change those listings to use GA.

Mentor2 years agoThe clerk at your po was talking about a first class package. You needed to ask about sending a letter or a “flatâ€, also called a large envelope. Those are still valid services, assuming your package meets the requirements, which is why eBay offers them.

Mentor2 years agoIf you select first class delivery, you can use postage stamps or pay at the post office. There is no tracking and the envelope has to meet the dimensions and weight for first class shipping. If your package exceeds those limits, then you ship using ground advantage, which does include tracking and insurance.

OP2 years agoThanks, but I do not understand why eBay allows a listing using First Class when they change it to GA after the fact. Really messing up my postings where I pay postage.

Mentor2 years agoYou can use the service, you just can’t print a label through eBay. You hand address your envelope and buy postage at the PO.
When you try to print a label, it changes it to GA since you can’t buy a label for first class letter or large envelope.

Mentor2 years agoThe USPS removed first class package option on July 9, 2023, and we were advised to edit our listings to ground advantage. I was able to use the bulk edit option to do that on July 9.
