USPS Dispute Shipping Charges - No Status Update
I filed a dispute for added USPS shipping charges of $40 (on top of the already $33 shipping to CA for a 5lb item) on 1/2/26. I have yet to hear back from USPS or eBay on the status of that dispute. I tried calling the number I used to file the dispute on 1/2/26, but that is no longer in service. How do I get an update on this dispute? This topic does not fall under any of the other help items listed.

OP8 months agoI was able to confirm that the $40 charge was refunded to my account. Still scary that there would be that much of an error. Thanks to everyone for their help!

You're welcome. I had every expectation that you would receive your refund. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Mentor8 months agoHi @rajsanjohn
Regarding the question you asked here... how to get an update on your label dispute...
The email you received states that USPS will respond within 5-15 business days from the date of your dispute. It's been about 12 business days, so you should be hearing something soon.
eBay cannot help with the dispute. The cost adjustment comes from USPS - eBay just forwards the information to you.
The cost adjustment you received shows the parameters you entered when you purchased your eBay label and what the hub detected when it scanned the package. Occasionally, there are errors.

Mentor8 months agoHi @rajsanjohn
I looked through your Sold items and was wondering if the item in question is the "Used Worky Portable Desk" which measures 26 x 15 x 3.5 from what I gather on the listing but the weight is shown as 16 lbs. The box that had to be shipped in, how big was that? There is already a $ 4 surcharge for a package that is over 22" long. I am also guessing that the box it shipped in measures like 28 x 17 x 5 which would be 2,389 cubic inches. USPS charges Volume weight rates for any cubic volume over 1,728 cubic inches (12 x 12 x 12). Rates can easily double and triple going coast to coast. I'm in PA too less than 2 hours south of you and I see the same thing shipping to the west coast.
To see if you made a mistake on the listing with the weight and dimensions of the finished package use the drop-down menu on the listing and select Sell Similar.
This will create a duplicate listing and you can check the weight and dimensions on the original listing. If they are different from the actual wight and box dimensions you shipped the item in you may or may not be entitled to a refund. You can Delete the listing after you checked it.
I see just over $ 14 to ship from your town to mine on the listing BUT, if I use the larger dimensions I noted above and add some weight for the shipping box and use the USPS calculator I am seeing over $ 24 to ship it here.
You can try reaching out to eBay customer service via Social Media but they are not really involved with this.

OP8 months agoIt was not the Worky desk. That was fine. It was this item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/177660785969 I have the receipt from dropping off the item and it was shown as 5lbs. 3.7 oz. The item was delivered successfully on 12/26. Suspiciously, 5 days later, on 12/31 the USPS filed for an additional $40 shipping charge stating that the item was 20lbs, not 5. This is a fradulent claim. Look up any picture frame 12x20" and they are about 5lbs. I filed a dispute through eBay with the USPS on 1/2, but there has been no update. I will try the social media method and see if I can get someone live on the line. Thanks!

I did look at that one too but just could get to the high shipping cost. You had no dimensions on your listing so I got those from another Seller's listing ... yep, 12 x 20 and figure a shipping box 2" bigger all around. I'm not seeing the extra $ 40 to ship it either. So the receipt you have, was that because a clerk scanned it in or did you use one of those self help Kiosks?
