USPS confiscated for "Uppaid Postage" (SurePost) How do I get eBay to reimburse?
Summary: A participant shared their experience of selling a watch on eBay and facing an issue where the package was confiscated by USPS due to alleged unpaid postage. Although the label was purchased through eBay, and transit was handled correctly by UPS, the final handoff to USPS resulted in the package being flagged and not delivered. The participant refunded the buyer but is now seeking advice on getting reimbursed by eBay. golfingaddict mentioned that eBay warns against USPS confiscations and will not refund, advising that packages should be dropped off at a UPS location to avoid such issues.
Hi everyone, I’m dealing with an incredibly frustrating situation and hoping someone here has successfully navigated it.
I recently sold a Seiko Kinetic watch for about $150. I purchased a UPS Ground Saver label directly through eBay, double-checking that my weight and dimensions were 100% accurate.
UPS handled the transit fine (Tracking: 1Z14V49EYW22994482). But when they handed it off to the local post office for the final mile, USPS flagged it and updated their tracking (92612903617237541508447417) to: "Alert: Unpaid postage, item will not be delivered."
I called USPS, and they confirmed the package is gone. Because of their strict counterfeit postage policies, they simply confiscate it. They won't deliver it, they won't let me pay the difference, and they won't return it to me.
I have already fully refunded the buyer to protect my seller metrics and avoid a defect. But now I am out $150 plus the cost of the label, entirely because of a backend data glitch between UPS and USPS on a label that eBay sold me.
Has anyone else dealt with this UPS Ground Saver handoff glitch?
Were you able to get eBay to reimburse you since they sold the label?
Is there a specific department or phrase I need to use with eBay support to get them to actually look at the carrier error instead of just giving me automated responses?
Any advice on how to fight this would be hugely appreciated!

Mentor3 months agoI don't see how eBay is responsible, they only sold you a label but did not handle anything else concerning this. It's between UPS and USPS. I would try filing a claim for a lost package on the insurance if possible.
