USPS Confirmed item was delivered, but tracking is glitched and will not update. How do I get paid?
Summary: brjhart is experiencing an issue with a USPS tracking glitch that prevents them from receiving payment for a delivered item. Despite confirming with USPS that the package was delivered, public tracking has not updated due to a glitch. Efforts to resolve the issue through USPS and eBay have been unsuccessful. inceptions advises that as a new seller, payment holds may last up to 31 days, suggesting patience until the payment is released.
Unless I am misunderstanding, I need a delivery confirmation to receive payment. The problem is that the tracking number is glitched and this was confirmed by USPS. I've been given proof the item was delivered but the tracking does not reflect this. I've tried to reach out to customer service and I've gotten nowhere.
Full story:
On July 7th I took an order to USPS. I let them weigh the item and bought the label from the employee. They shipped off the item. On July 10th, the tracking updated to say the item was being held a few states away and would not be delivered because the label was not paid for. I knew I had in fact paid for the label, so I took the receipt and went back to the post office. They confirmed not only had the label been paid for, but the item was already delivered! I went home and assumed the tracking would update to reflect this. It never did.
I went back to the post office and they were just as confused as I was. The internal system shows all the scans from when it was dropped off to when it was delivered. The public tracking page stops on July 10th. They told me the scan when the item was wrongly held for unpaid postage must have been an error that glitched out the public tracking. They printed off the internal tracking records and told me to contact the official USPS customer service to see if they can force the public tracking to update. Spoiler: they couldn't. All they could do was confirm the item was delivered and confirm the public tracking had not been updated. The person I spoke to said they had never seen this happen, and the public tracking should've continued updating past the 10th. I was told it was not possible for them to manually update the tracking.
So, I contacted eBay customer support. The ai kept telling me over and over to use the tracking number to prove the item was delivered. I finally was able to speak to a real person, but I got nowhere and was given another number to call (ending in 29). When I called all I got was a robot telling me it can't help me or transfer me to a customer service agent.
As for the buyer's side of things, I've tried to keep them updated but all I've gotten is radio silence. USPS gave me the internal scans so as far as I know it was delivered. They haven't filed a claim, but why would they? They got the item.
Is that it? I just don't ever get paid? Does eBay hold on to the money forever? I've tried to find an eBay customer support email so I can send the proof the item was delivered and hopefully get help but I've come up with nothing.

MentorJul 14, 2026 at 10:31 PMHi @brjhart
As a new/infrequent seller, you are subject to payment holds (typically up to 31 days).
Learn more about payment holds here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/transaction-hold?id=4816&from=EBAY_AI&origin=EBAY_AI
All you can do now is wait for your payment to be released. Once established as a consistent, reliable seller, payment holds will be lifted.

OPJul 14, 2026 at 10:37 PMYes, I'm aware. This issue is
"New private sellers will typically receive their funds within 2 days after delivery confirmation (for items sent with an ebay label), 7 days after delivery confirmation (for items sent with a third-party label), or 31 days after the buyer pays (for items sent without tracking)"
I sent the item with tracking but the tracking is glitched and will not show as delivered. Does that mean I do not get paid? After 31 days will I get paid anyway?
