USPS claim denial
How to handle with claims with usps? eBay says every shipping label has 100 usd insurance, but usps doesn’t compensate damage because it has to be buyer who brings the item together with packaging and box to their post office for inspection, which non of the buyers will do of course. I loose a lot of profit refunding my buyers for the usps braking my orders.

Mentor1 year ago@timeless-beauties USPS has started REQUIRING buyers to bring the broken item to the post office before they will pay the claim.
Some advice on packing... if you don't feel comfortable throwing your box at least 4 feet and having another heavy box land on it then you need more packing material. Use LARGE bubble and real Styrofoam peanuts, especially for heavy fragile items. I sold a LOT of glass figurines when my parents passed and only my first shipment had damage because I used small bubble wrap and corn starch peanuts.
You may wish to see if you can purchase Shipcover insurance for the items. Not sure if you can purchase it if the item is under $100. I do see the additional liability coverage option on the label page even for an item that is under $100. But can't test it without buying a label. I don't believe that they require the buyer to bring the item to a post office but they DO require the buyer to provide information about the damage.
ShipCover Shipping Insurance and Claims
On eBay, we offer ShipCover insurance when you buy and print USPS labels on our site. Items shipped to most countries can be covered, although there are some exclusions. See the ShipCover Parcel Insurance Terms of Coverage page for additional details on items that aren't eligible for coverage and conditions of insurance.
It's important to note that we offer ShipCover insurance through Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP), which is underwritten by Interstate Fire and Casualty Company, a subsidiary of Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company.

ShipCover insurance is not available for items shipped using eBay International Shipping. You can purchase insurance through your preferred carrier to cover a shipment to the domestic shipping hub. Any claims related to the international leg of the delivery are handled by eBay International Shipping.
Adding ShipCover insurance to your packages
ShipCover insurance starts at $1.70 per $100 of coverage for domestic shipping, and $2.82 per $100 of coverage for international shipping. You can buy up to $15,000 of coverage for domestic shipments, and up to $10,000 coverage for international shipments. To see a full list of rates go to our ShipCover page.
Here's how to add ShipCover:
You'll receive an email confirming that your shipment is insured, along with your insurance policy number.
Filing a ShipCover claim
We've partnered with Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP) to process ShipCover insurance claims. Here's how to file your claim:
You'll receive an email confirmation about your claim, including the policy number, claim amount, and claim number.
With ShipCover claims, keep in mind:
What happens after you file a ShipCover claim
If the buyer reports they didn't receive the item or opens a return request because the item was damaged in shipping, we use that information to verify your claim.
However, if the buyer doesn't report an issue, they may need to verify your claim by responding to an email from Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP). If the buyer doesn't respond within 15 days, PIP sends you a reminder to get in touch with the buyer and ask them to confirm the claim.
Please contact Parcel Insurance Plan (PIP) if you don't hear from them within 3 weeks of filing your claim.

Mentor1 year agoHi @timeless-beauties
-How many damaged shipments have happened for you?
-I see you sold a decent amount of glassware, that has to be packaged extremely secure. How ar eyou shipping that stuff?
-One damaged shipment every so often is one thing but if it happens on a regular basis the issue may with your packaging methods and not USPS handling.

OP1 year agoMy packaging methods are fine, that is why I am
able to sell fragile items for over a year now. It does not happen every week, but the problem is that it’s out of my control and yet it’s me who has to compensate, not the carriers. My question is if there is a working solution to handle this issue with USPS, thanks

-How many damaged shipments have happened for you?
-If Buyers will not cooperate when you file a claim and USPS wants to see the damaged item and packaging there is not much you can do.
-When a Buyer claims there is damage do you ask for pictures of both package and item?

OP1 year agoI did not count how many items were damaged but this happens from time to time. I do receive pictures of damaged items when buyers claim it was delivered damaged, and I claim online on usps website but this does not work. I do not understand how a seller is protected in this situation? Why this insurance isn’t working for the seller who is the one who buys the shipping label? There is obviously violation of policy and usps is not completing their obligation.

It has been years since I processed a USPS insurance claim as a Seller. Damaged items were returned to me by Buyers, I file the claims online on the USPS website, USPS issued payment within a week on the two claims I remember. Then they changed the process and since then I have had no damage claims by Buyers that could not be resolved outside of a return, although they always have that option since I offer 30 day Free returns.
Carriers, while they offer insurance coverage, have made it more challenging to file a successful claims. I have friends who have done everything right and as required and still had their claims denied. They get their money and want to keep it.
You will have to list the loss as a deduction on your annual tax return.

OP1 year agoThank you for your time and support. It looks like sellers are on their own with this issue.

Pretty much ... sadly, the 3rd parties with little skin in the game can cause the most issues that cost Sellers money.
